Super Visa From India: Complete Guide

Last updated:

India is the single largest source country for super visa applicants, and processing has improved sharply — from around 116 days in January 2026 to about 28 days by June 2026. Applicants give biometrics at a VFS Global centre, and under the March 2026 rules a parent's own pension income can help support the host's income. Visa offices in New Delhi and Chandigarh handle most Indian files.

More super visa applicants come from India than from any other country. The good news for 2026 is that processing has sped up dramatically, and a recent rule change can make it easier to qualify on income. Here is what an application from India looks like right now.

How the application works from India

The path is the same as for any country, but the volume from India is huge. Your child or grandchild in Canada acts as the host and writes an invitation letter. You then apply for the super visa online, give biometrics, and complete a medical exam. See our full how to apply guide for the step-by-step order.

  • Host in Canada must be a citizen, permanent resident, or registered Indian and meet the income requirement.
  • Buy at least CAD $100,000 in medical insurance from a Canadian insurer, valid for one year.
  • Complete an immigration medical exam with an IRCC panel physician in India.
  • Give biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at a VFS Global centre.

Current processing time from India

Processing from India has fallen fast. In January 2026 it was around 116 days, but by June 2026 it dropped to roughly 28 days — one of the biggest improvements of any country. This is well under IRCC's 112-day service standard.

Documents and biometrics

Indian applicants give biometrics at a VFS Global centre — there are many across India, so pick the one nearest you. Bring your passport and the biometric instruction letter to your appointment. Biometrics are valid for 10 years.

The visa offices in New Delhi and Chandigarh handle most Indian applications. Make sure financial documents, the invitation letter, and your travel history all tell a consistent story. Our document checklist lists everything you need.

Using a parent's pension to qualify

Under the March 31, 2026 changes, a parent or grandparent's own income — such as a pension or investments — can now supplement the host's income. This helps many Indian families where the parent has a steady pension.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a super visa from India take in 2026?

About 28 days as of June 2026, down from roughly 116 days in January 2026. Processing times change, so check the processing times page for the current figure.

Where do I give biometrics in India?

At a VFS Global centre. There are many locations across India, so choose the one nearest you and bring your biometric instruction letter.

Can my parent's pension help us meet the income requirement?

Yes, under the March 2026 rules a parent's own pension or investment income can supplement the host's income. The host (with any co-signer) must still meet at least 75% of the requirement on their own; the parent's income then covers the remaining amount.
